Yeah the lily pads they put out are known to keep growing even after they hit the top of tank, I had one in my old 75 gallon high tech planted tank, and the plant was put on the right side of the tank and had 3 of lily pads that stretched to the top of the tank on the left side. The same goes for normal Tiger Lotus plants!!!

Lily/lotus plants will have runner leaf that sent out to reach the water surface, if you want some surface cover or bottom shade area then just leave those alone, however the plant will stop produce lower leaf near the base root and those soon will die off cause lacking of light. Also, lily/lotus plants only produce flowers after runners reached water surface, those are nice plants to have for some setup!
