At long last, tropical gars are on their way thanks to Stones Aquarium and the pre-order for these fishes will be done only on Monster Fish Keepers.

More avid gar-fans will know that these are one of the two rarest species of gars (along with the cuban gars) and up to this point have been unavailable in Singapore. I have personally been on a 3 year quest to find these fish.

At long last, these fish will finally make their way to our sunny shores. They will be available in VERY limited stock and this might possibly be the only time they are imported. If you are a gar enthusiast, oddball fish fanatic, or just interested in rare fishes, this definitely a species to add to the collection. This rare monster fish is finally available...

Each order will come with a Limited Edition MFK Garmy sticker:)

SKIP to the bottom for the business info :)

    ====

Here is a little bit of info:

    Average Captive Max Size:
    Roughly 24” – 28”

    Description:
The tropical gar, Atractosteus tropicus, is the smallest member of the genus Atractosteus, which contains the giant alligator gar and the Cuban gar. The tropical gar is therefore the best suited member of the genus for the aquarium.

Tropical gars have the build that is similiar to the Cuban gar, yet with a highly variable and beautiful pattern that is shown toward the end of the post!! These fish combine the monster look of the alligator gar (minus the size) with a brilliant pattern that is unique to the Tropical gars.

Because of their very limited availability and restricted range, just owning one of these fish makes it a showpiece for any collection.

    Availability:

These fish will be available at 11-12cm (~4.5"). Prices are as follows:

    Small Tropical Gar: SG$180

Please note that I am not making any money from this shipment, I am merely helping Stones sell these fish since he was gracious enough to order them in. Right now I am taking people's names on a list for when these fish arrive. ETA : 19th March 2011, susceptible to change and updates based on Stones schedule.

Reserve yours now as they are in VERY limited quantity. First come, first served. Please post questions here if you have them. If you are interested in one of these specimens, leave your name in this thread and PM me your contact number.

Any order after the 30th specimen will be on the waiting list, orders from the 20th-30th specimens may be placed on the waiting list, so place your orders FAST.

Thanks for your interest, and I hope you are able to take advantage of owning these extremely rare, primitive, monster fish.

--ps: This order is for SINGAPORE, PICK-UP only. Kindly refrain from asking me is shipping is an option.

I'm glad to see that you're finally getting those tropical gars that you have always wanted, Xander, plus at a good price too! If Google converted the currency right, they're only around $140 USD which is less than they go for here in the U.S. from what I have seen recently!

Sadded, i dont think my tank is large enough to house them for life.
Guess I'll pass on this deal until I manage to save up for a larger tank (15% there)

I rather not have one than to have one stunted

Will consider 1st. Price wise is reasonable. But space wise I'm having a big headache.

They max out at ~3'. The smallest of the genus. A 6x2.5x2.5 is gd enough since captive specimens tend to be smaller.
