The petshop by me has gator gars that are about 1in. I want to buy it but because of it's size I would have to keep it in some of my smaller tanks until it goes into the pond.

I was thinking of keeping it in a breeders net in one of my tanks for a while l while only feeding it frozen. Hoping it won't look at the other fish as a food source when it is released.

How does my plan to reduce the chances of the gar eating my other fish?

Crappy plan, only because there is no good plan for what you're trying to do.
Only thing you can do is keep it well fed.

won't work. sooner or later the gar is going to try and eat or kill the others.

you might as well not even look at a gator gar. they grow extremely fast so it would be in your pond within a year I would guess. depending on how well you take care of it that is.

I've tried your method, and then once I put my gar into my pond, my 4 inches long clown knife was gone ...

Good luck. I love gars but have had so many bad experiences with them that I'm done risking them in community tanks.
