Just got a 5 inch 24K GBB XB last week. Need some advice on tanning. Looks kinda reddish under white LED. I've taken out all the black substrate from the 4ft tank. Any idea on how big they need to go before I can blackout the tank's sides and bottom? And color or background? Currently using blue for it. Seller suggested a whiteout tank for now.

No, you only tan red arowanas. Gold arowana, from small to 14" you put the gold arowana in an all white tank to help bring the shine to the highest level. Then once 14"+ you put the gold arowana in a black tank to help bring out the intensity in the gold.

Your Gold Blue Base XB will have deep dark blue base and gold rim on the scales so there is nothing you can do to make it look goldish like a true gold arowana.

Get him into tanning after a year. Gold rims will become more pronounced if tanned under the right conditions.. But will still have the blue core.

Hi all. I need advice on whether i should tan my green arowana. Went to a local arowana farm and the shop owner said that you can tan a green arowana but read some forums and realised tanning is only for red and gold and not for greens. Confused as to whether i should tan my arowana. Attached pictures for clarity. Please help me with this. Thank You!20200720_204715.jpg20200616_102653.jpg20200616_102654.jpg

Given he is only 5 incher - you might want to hold off tanning till he is 10-12 incher... the reason is their natural mature colors don't come out until 1-2 years old anyway.

Once you hit at least 1 year - tan-away!

Judging from the bigger pictures it looks more like a green arowana than a crossback. Please google green arowana and compare the pics and you will see what I am talking about

u can put in white background first to improve its shine and crossing. After 30 cm size, change the background color to black to intensify the blue core colors and gold rims. for lighting I use TICA aro-10 (13.000 kelvin)
