To get my first male Umbee it took me over two years and many failed attempts. In total I grew out over 20 juveniles, 6 or 8 or so at a time, from different source's, to find them all to be female's. Eventually I ended up with a beautiful breeding pair.
Now my second male has been a lot more easier. To start with I no longer have to buy fry as I have a never ending supply from my unrelated breeding pair. A tank full of rocks, 10 home grown juveniles, and 12 months later my second male.
Today I am starting over again attempting to sort out another male. This time I plan to take pics and keep updates coming.
Some pics of first male, second male and fry going into the grow out tank. The grow out tank needs more rocks. I shall be adding more later. You can never have enough hiding places, the more the better.

Looking great, and good luck with the breeding, hopefully you don't have any accidents of male/female killing the other.

At what size was he when you could tell he was a male and what specific trait made you sure he was a male? I have some grow outs at the moment, do males grow faster?
