:cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:I Have had my 240 gallon up and going for 4/5 months now . had an oscar that I"ve had for atleast six year's now and two new aquired fish.One was a 9inch Pleco & about the same size TSN, which ive had for about 2 months now and the Pleco was the most recent at 3 weeks . Well everything was perfectly fine in the mournig when i feed them. Then I recived a call from the girl friend that the fish were going crazy jumping out of the tank When I finnaly arived all were dead exept the oscar but died alittle later any way. I had feed them some feeders that mournig and the day before but everything seemed fine and the rest are still alive But the next mourning the tank was really cloudy And smelled bad like something, not dead fish or anything but to me it smelled like chemicals or almost like the vynil hose was melting or something. My girlfreing say it smelled like glue to her. I have no clue what happen and all the fish died within a few hours. If it were the feeders would it have made the water cloudy and smell like that? I didn't find anything melted or obviosly wrong & nothing was added to the tank and I know nobody tampered with it. Has this happened to anyone? I'm totaly confused & detered becasue i dont know what happened .... CAN ANYONE HELP??????????:( :( :cry:
 
:eek: :WHOA: :eek: AHHH I am sooooo sorry for you loss bro. Thats just horrible. Hope you find out why this happen....
 
Wouldn't be surprised if the TSN or Oscar over-ate and puked up it's food.. This would cause a horrible ammonia spike..

Very common with pbass, datnoids, and lionfish..
 
I've had a smell like that before. Kinda smelled like burnt rubber. I nailed it down to a new sponge that I was using to clean the glass that I had left in the tank for a long time and it sort of broke down and fell apart, like it disintegrated and produced an oilly type of odor. I did a massive water change and didn't lose any fish that time but if you look at my previous "Fish Soup" thread you'll see that I did lose fish for a differnet reason! I hope you can find the reason for the smell and I'm sorry for the loss of your fish.

your oscar could have spit up the feeders causeing stomach acids to come out and make your water toxic
 
That sucks. Sorry for your lost. Maybe it was the feeders being puked up. I know that causes some funky smell and cloudy water.:(
 
Sorry for your loss, I would blame the girl, things like that don't spontaneously happen.
 
Sorry for your loss. I can understand being shell-shocked by this. Could anything have gone in by way of the air pump? Anything sprayed (bug spray)? near the air pump. Did you think to do a water test?

Were the fish out of water long?

Well, clean everything and get back in the saddle again. Life happens (or doesn't)

Reminds me of when I lost my 16in pleco, banjo catfish & upsidedown catfish for absolutely no reason. I checked everything, even had the water analyzed by a lab. No poisons or heavy metals, nothing out of the ordinary.

Man, this bums me out...
