Oldest Goldfish Died (45)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think its :bs: that the goldfish was actually 45 when it died. No proof. I don't care where they say they got it. Chances are they had it in some tiny bowl for the majority of its life. Doubt it would have made it. Liars they are. A pox on them.

Somebody aske em if Goldie made good fertilizer.

can anybody verify the previous post that says koi can live 100+ years???

you can tell the age of a koi by counting the rings on the scales, with one ring equalling one spring (or period of rapid growth) and as there are only one spring in a year the amount or rings equals the age. Like telling the age of a tree.

chances are this is the method used on aging a 100 year old koi

or........carp (koi's ansestor) in the wild.

Apparently the oldest koi was 280 years old when it kicked the bucket. Google for it!

I agree, from the picture it looks like either a lion or an oranda which are fancy gold fish, life expectancy 20 years tops
If it was a common or commet goldfish, well then being that old it would have been around a foot long in length and be able to live maybe 30 years tops.
Unless goldie is not infact the fish in the picture this story seems very very unlikely.
just my two cents. i guess i;m a skeptic

i have 12 goldfish and i had them in a 29 gal eclipse for 2 years.. and they laid eggs and got some babies with them. they were approx 4". i transfered them in my 60 gal tank and they are just as big as they were in the 29 gal. goldfish are are in the ponds or larger tank will grow bigger no matter what (i am talking about goldfish not any other fish). for some reason their are goldfish that don't get big due to some odd reasons.

with regards to the internal organs... i don't know if that's true. lfs can tell you all sorts of medival stories that are not based on facts. if they were expert breeders maybe i would believe them.. but still.. that is a big question mark??? (were not fish.. we can't communicate with them and ask them or cut them open and say.. oh you have big oversize organs.

on the 100 or 200 years... it can happen but what is on the web can be easily a false statement unless done by some VALID RESEARCH. i would agree maybe with 50years... 100 is a stretch down the line... 200 years.. that's totally abnormal. goldfish with care and regular lifespan are around 25 years... 45 year old goldfish.. that fish must have been well taken care off since birth.

compare lifespan of fish to humans... if we eat right, exercise, and breath fresh air.. yes we will live 100 years.. like fish.. good water, proper diet, and vitamins. and one last thing.. don't just buy a fish for the sake of show off! buy it because you care and spend time with it... they die fast if you ignore them!:swear:

my comments are only based on the things i have read and my own experience since i had goldfish when i was young and i have them until now.:)

I have had goldfish all my life, and the oldest one I had before he died a couple months ago was 12 years old. He was about 8" when he died. So I dont think that a goldfish can even live up to 45 years, and if it did it would be bigger than that picture. Just my opinion.:D
