New Motoro, Prettiest male I have seen yet!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just keep up the waterchanges and keep him in good water.. Maybe try some other foods like earthworms, i know on one of my females i couldn't get her to eat until i dropped worms in there.. Then she went crazy..

Thanks Mike, we are keeping up on the water changes and I will try the earthworms if he doesn't start to get an appetite soon.

Anyone else think it is a hybrid? Or just a motoro variant "superspot"

i think you are very lucky to own such a lovely male motoro variant. (welcome to the variant club)lol.

LOL magic- Thank you. So when people say variant are they meaning it is a Hybrid of some other kind of ray with strong Motoro genes so we don't really know what it is crossed with? Or is variant meaning it is a 100% motoro just an odd pattern? Just curious.

Thanks!

Most definately 100% motoro with odd pattern.
I hope you manage to get it feeding more, try chopping earthworms to release more scent.
What are it's tank mates?

I will be getting some earthworms here soon and will chop them up. I have found that I have to land the food right in front of him before he will eat, he will not hunt and pounce on it like most rays i have seen eat. There are 2 Fl gars and 2pbass in the tank. The bass wont touch the talapia or shrimp so I know its not a matter of competing for food.

I wouldn't worry about cutting them up, he's big enough to take whole worms no problem.. Plus i'd just run to walmart if there's one by you, that's where i bought all my worms. Right out of the bait cooler..lol

Ashley,
I'm 100% that this is a Motoro X ? hybrid. Im in no way saying thats a bad thing but if you can get close up of the top of the disc at the head and tail points i should be able to give some indication of what that might be.
Hybrid patterning often shows with a dominant pattern and an underlying recessive pattern (if youve ever seen a Liger or a tigron you can see that in their pelts) hence the motoro pattern looking like its been placed over a possible P.castexi .
