One ugly SOB... LOVE IT! haha, I really wish scorpions/frog-fish/leaf-fish/anglers where reef safe, as I love their character and rough appearances... That said I am thinking about getting a mini angler if I see one come up for sale, one of the ones that only gets to like 3-4" so he at best will only pick off a small chromis once and a wile.

I have seen a lot of these in reefs...other than the shrimps etc they are pretty much reef safe...snails and hermits would be okay most of the time, snails would be completely safe. Small fish, and things without hard shells are gonners though.

That is one awesome fish...incredibly jealous.

Ya, so have I, thats just it though, in my next system I plan to have something like 20-30 blue/green chromies, which max out at 3ish inches, plus 10-20 the PJ and bangai cardianls (much more expencive to lose), so I'm thinking if I get one I'll add it after most of my fish are aduts, and target feed him with live feeder shrimp like P Vulgaris or something to keep him happy.

I would avoid that combo, as a test I added about 20 damsels to my tank yesterday... After feeding, when I got up this morning there were 3 left, so he ate 17 after being fed, I think it's maybe not the best idea, as that tank would look like a giant buffet

Lions and stingrays are one thing. But you guys are nuts messing with stonefish. Next thing i'll see is somebody with a blue ringed octopus lol

Not a s/w guy, but seriously into odd balls, and that stone fish are one of my favs...

As for blue ring octopus, i've seen them for sale over here in Hong Kong before, so i'm sure there are some people crazy enough to keep them at home...

Well you can pretty much get what you want in hk.... We ate stonefish about 4 months ago pretty tasty if I do say so..

How big where the damsels and how bit was the angler? As, I wasnt planing to add the angler till the Chromis/Cardinals where already 3" and the angler would be one that didnt get bigger then 4" also this system will be huge... as in MFK huge lol (1000gal). That said your probably right either way I don't know preds as well as reefdwellers... I'll likely end up making a smaller system just for one of these guy and a few other "passive" preds.

They were tiny .25 inch, and he's a decent size guy, 6-8 inches...the best I can tell, i dont really care to measure him by hand:grinno: I'm sure in a tank that size you would be fine...when I put them into the tank for some reason they all chose to group up and hang out directly over him, I honestly dont think the stonefish would be willing to attempt to chase them, as it really only seems to have 2 positions in the tank that it likes, during the day buried in the sand up to it's eyes in a little cave, and at night it comes to the mouth of the cave and sits.. It's very strange, has almost perfect poise, other fish bumping into it, hermit crabs crawling over it, snowflake was hiding under it, the chocolate chipnstar crawled directly over its face today... And it didn't budge...really hard to tell if it's still alive sometimes

props man... great fish and true dedication to fish... youve conquered that whole respect and fear factor that monster fish keepers should all have... yes it is dangerous... but only if your not respecting him... i congradulate you man... one of the best oddballers i have seen...

Would already have one by now...but unfortunately the lab I work in only keeps fish.

Someday when I do get my octo...this one will be considered.

No animals need be feared...many do demand and deserve our respect however.
