I look forward to seeing this all set up! Sticklebacks have a reputation as relentless fin-nippers that can stress larger fish to death; they are not good candidates for a community tank. I haven't kept johnny darters, but rainbow darters, redbelly dace, and mudminnows are all hardy, reasonably peaceful, and maintain their good looks in the tank to a higher degree than some natives.

Interesting, looking forward to seeing pics.

My experience with brook sticklebacks is as follows; if they aren't relentlessly nipping at a fish it usually means said fish is large enough to attempt to eat them and will eventually.

My issues with sticklebacks was always more diet...never seemed to get bullied or bully much...in fact a lot of minnows left them alone, the stickles just couldnt compete for food.

i've never had an issue with them, even the largest is very quiet. i have 8 sticklebacks 2 yellow perch and 20 fatheads in my tank and by far the most aggressive fish is the biggest fathead

Wow. Thats lucky...those fish would be called perch food in my tank...we get them all the time in with mixed bait that we buy for the natives.
