THIS JUST IN....NEW 300 MOVIE IN THE WORKS!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Maybe I just care a little more about the storyline than most people, idk. To me, this movie is the equivalent of someone making a movie where Frodo and Harry Potter are at war, it just doesn't make sense. It's not really that big of a deal, I've never seen a movie that got all the mythology even close to right, so I don't really expect one to come out anytime soon. Like I said, I'll probably still see the movie. Looks entertaining, even with the screwed up plot.

It's not the same people, the immortals in this movie are the titans.

thanks for the explanation

what did you think about Troy? was that accurate?

unless i'm wrong, after the events that took place in Troy, Odysseus goes on his epic journey right? The Odyssey?

Yeah, the Odyssey took place after the Trojan War. Troy is more accurate than some movies, and it is actually one of my favorite movies. There were quite a few mistakes though. The most obvious mistake is that the Trojan war was supposed to have taken place over a ten year period, but I can understand why they shortened it. The one mistake that bugged me was that Ajax (the huge guy with the big axe) was killed by Hektor in the movie, while in the actual story he was not, instead he ended up killing himself after he went insane and killed a bunch of sheep, thinking that they were Greeks, due to a spell that Athena had put on him after Odysseus was given the armor of Achilles rather than him. Menelaus was also not killed during the war in the story, while in the movie he was. On the other hand, Achilles was killed before the Trojan Horse was made in the story, while in the movie he was not. The one other mistake that they made, although I can understand why they did this one as well, is that Patroclus was actually thought to have been either a lover of very close friend of Achilles, not his cousin as the movie shows. Most people probably would not have wanted the movie to take that direction though.

Aside from those mistakes, there are a few small mistakes dealing with technology that would've been available during the time period and some other gruesome details that were left out, but it is still a great movie.
Sorry for the long-winded response, lol.

thanks. i'm thinking The Immortals will maybe be like a cross between Troy and 300

Patroclus may have been Achilles' lover???

Achilles drops down a few notches on my badass characters list for that one

I can definitely see it being somewhat of a mix of the two. And yeah, oddly enough that kind of thing was supposedly really common in ancient Greece and Rome. I thought that was pretty weird when I first heard it.

I for one don't mind the long response.Interesting about Achilles and Patroclus. So what about that group, did the Marmaden exist in mythology or was it a figment of Hollywood?

x2, i love movies so these little details are important to me

btw, they should do a Hercules movie about the 10 things he had to go do. i forget the details but in the 9th grade i did a report about that when we went thru the greek mythology thing

edit: it was the Labors of Hercules, and there was 12 things he had to do, not ten

The myrmidons were real in mythology, I researched a little bit when I first saw Troy and found that out. They were supposedly created when Aeacus, the grandfather of Achilles, was praying to Zeus to repopulate his land after a plague wiped out most of the citizens. There are a few different interpretations of what happened next, but essentially what happened is that Zeus created a group of men from ants, these men being the first Myrmidons. They got their name because Myrmidon pretty much means "ant-people". There was also a hero called Myrmidon, who is also connected to Achilles because he was a king of Phthia, a region in Thessaly that was founded by Aeacus. He got his name because Zeus seduced his mother in the form of an ant.

That's about all I remember, I'm pretty sure I just summarized 3-4 different websites, haha.

I'd definitely love to see a movie about the labors of Hercules/Heracles, as well as maybe a peek into his life after them. It would definitely be a bit darker than the disney movie though, he ends up killing all of his chlidren that he had with Megara, who was featured in the disney movie. A bunch of other interesting stuff happens as well. The labors themselves are very intriguing as well, they would probably make a very cool, albeit long, movie.

I honestly don't know why there aren't more movies based on mythology made. The storyline is already there, so that makes the movie production a whole lot easier. The stories are always pretty interesting, so there's no reason why movies based on mythology wouldn't do well as long as they were produced/directed well.

didn't hera use magic of some sort to send him into a blind rage killing them all? i read that one time

and yea, i agree, don't know why they don't do more movies. clash of the titans was kind of a let down though

Yeah, she drove him mad and he killed his children, and in some versions of the story, his wife. That act is actually what caused him to do the twelve labours, in order to cleanse himself of the sin.

And to tell you the truth, I still haven't seen all of Clash of the Titans, just bits and pieces. I have watched the old one all the way through though.
