my question is..

just got a marbled crayfish a few days ago..she was out and eating now all the sudden she's hiding and not coming out..everything's fine in the tank..i was told she's getting ready to have egg's..is this true? just not wanting to get my hope's up..really need to know for sure..

Typically when they hold up in a place, and don't move about, they are in the processing "berrying". Do NOT disturb her, or move her, as she will drop her eggs.

I have a 40 gallon breeder tank for 4 of my adults, and cherry shrimps.. Mine are very comfortable in the tank, so they do move about when they are berried, but some of my smaller adults in my other cray tanks hold up.

awsome..thank you for your reply..i was just about to put her into a 40g tank on monday..since i cant move her now, how long should i wait to transfer her into the 40g?

22-42 days is gestation period for crays, so I would say in about a month and a half you can.. you should see her come back out once she has hatched the eggs.

cool..how long should i expect her to be hiding? and should i even put food in thank for her?

She will hide until the eggs start hatching. Once she had hatched all of her eggs, move her. Mine berry up almost immediately after the others hatch.

You always need to feed. Feed anything you can.

I feed: shrimp pellets, algae wafers, massivore, krill, silversides...

ok thank you alot for the help/info..i been feeding her hikari algea wafers/pellets,shirmp..these are awsome little crayfish to bad they life span is only a couple year's..

they might also be hiding because she is getting rdy to moult. most crayfish stop eating and hide a lot a few days before a moult. this may not be the case with marbled though. i have no experience with them and encourage others not to because i worry what would happen should they establish wild populations.

you cant encourage others not to buy them but encourage people to do reaserch before buying 1 or more..it took me a few weeks of research before i decided to buy one..i have 2 ways of making use out of the babies food and frozen fishing bait..a friend of mine is a science teacher and he is getting one to teach his class about self cloning..he's actually going to have them do a report on a marbled crayfish..

I actually just noticed last night that I have a 1" cray from my first batch of babies that is berried! Very creepy looking. Will def try to get pics.
