Figured I'm never getting a fire eel as there huge. I have a 36x15x18 tank, 42us gallons and I think that the peacock is the biggest eel that will fit in there?
I'm looking for a good fish that I can actually hand feed without getting raped by some form of defence. Does anyone have any experience with peacocks? Would my tank be ok for one or two? Also what fish would I be able to keep with them?

Oh as well, does anyone know where to buy one in the UK that delivers?

I'd say get a Few rope Fish. There great fish and after a while you can hand feed them. I use to hand feed mine worms and i could pull the worm out of the water and his head would be out of the water holding on. :D But yeah a Peacock would be grand for your tank. I have no experience with them but i have seen my uncles grab onto the gills of other fish in his tank when the lights are off so they could be dodgey.

Take a look at Tanganyikan spiny eels (M.elipsifer). They are available in the UK if you look about. I think Dartford Aquatics were offering them mail order. They are not cheap, but are great mid-sized spinys. Even though Tanginyikan, they seem fairly adaptable as to water parameters. Mine is very happy in pH 7.8, hard water. If your water is verging on neutral or even acidic I would look elsewhere though.
Mine is 9-10", and has not really got any longer over the last 6 months, just thicker. Online profiles say a max size of 18" but I suspect this is unusual and might take a very, very long time to get there. THese eels get very tame and hand feed with ease. They also have the advantage that they seem to be much easier than most spinys to get to eat pellet food also.
Mine is completely peaceful with platys and large tetras, yet also not intimidated by my large sev or uaru.
The footprint of your tank would be the smallest that I would recommend for an elipsifer, but still OK.
