hmm what to get for a 300gal

That isn't fair to those fish. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. They don't have a good reputation because they are often bought by irresponsible people and they get big. My oscars are some of my favorites out of all the fish I have ever had.

To the OP, Pbass would be awesome in that tank. I like them but our local gov't. won't allow them in.

What a dick thing to say, lol. My O is the man. Erh... The fish! Lol. Pacu get too large for a 300g tank, so they are out of the loop anyhow in this scenario.
