Green Terror compatibility, 55 gallon?

Here's the way I see it. If he gets the GT, he's going to fall in love with it because they're so personable. When it starts to get 8, 9, 10"+, it will become quite obvious the fish is too big and he'll upgrade. I learned the hard way like that but at least I have bigger tanks now lol. Or on the other hand, he could keep it cramped up in a little tank forever...who knows.

GL OP. Btw, although Pete is squabling atm, he is very knowledgable in this matter and you would do well to follow his advice.

I keep one female GT (very colorful for a female, 1yr 3mo. old, 6"+) in a 55 with a school of 12 tiger barbs 1 bristlenose and 1 spotted raphael. It was my grow-out tank, but she was getting picked on so I made it her permanent home and got her some tankmates. This is now my favorite tank. They have been together almost a year now with no problems, and my water quality is easier to maintain than when it was a grow-out (35-40% weekly wc and vacuum). I don't really anticipate her growing more than 8" so I'm planning on keeping it this way (if she somehow does outgrow that I'll reconsider). If you care for a female, and there is nothing to stress her, they can be quite beautiful themselves. This may be a solution.

If I had a 75 empty, I would still move them to that (I may in the future anyway). Filtration is a Fluval 305 and AC 50, combined they have been completely sufficient.

I would not try this with a male. They get significantly larger and it's not just length.

^^ Yup, I don't admit I was wrong!! & I'm not complaining about nothing...your just an idiot taking it the wrong way. A GT would do just fine in a 55g until it reaches about max length, a better tank for it would be a 75g or bigger--yes...I know that (SORRY I SAID A 55G WOULD BE PERFECT FOR HIM EARLIER IN THIS THREAD, it was late at night and I was extremely tired--believe my 'excuse' or not, Idgaf really).

You don't get it do you? It's not you. It's the keyhole I'm trying to save. A GT is going to live in that 55 no matter what and, because of you, a keyhole is getting killed. Have you kept a keyhole with a GT in a 55g before? Seen anyone doing it?

You want advice? I'll give you some advice. This is how I keep a single GT. It's only 8" and alone in a 120g. See how small it makes the tank look? Can you imagine it putting on a few more inches and living in a 55g?

I did not comment on the OP's plan because he made it plenty clear that he WILL keep a GT in a 55. There's nothing I or anybody else can say to change that. But I figured at least I should save a keyhole!

I don't understand you. You don't know what you are talking about, you pretend to and give wrong advice to doom other people's fish, you don't admit you are wrong, and you are complaining the way other people criticize you? Really?

One can only hope.... Actually this is how I negotiate more tanks with the wife - "look, it's too small, they are suffering"

I am sorry you are being harassed and pushed around, there are so many people on forums who like to be the "best" and the "smartest" and so many that like to put down someone's opinion and/or experience. you are my friend, i am going to defend you, and it was pretty rude of them to put you down and use the "coo-coo" smilies, i hate it when someone acts like the best and smartest and picks on new users to try and prove they are the "best" and when they may think everyone is "inexperienced" and "stupid" they are wrong. everyone has their own experience and source of information, don't let anyone put you down. and i was not going to put a keyhole in my 55 gallon aquarium i picked up today, i don't even like them, they do not look like the best color, so i don't want a keyhole. and if aggression will be a problem, i'll probably just get a couple firemouths and a couple of convicts.

Experienced members were simply trying to point out that some bad advice was given. the guys who have "experience" with the particular species you mentioned shared there "experience" and even pics- not just random info and opinion. Most members here are just trying to give you the best information to get the most enjoyment from the hobby.
