Most lucrative fish to breed?

But they always sell.

Flowerhorns are all garbage around here, so one would need to order a related pair from overseas to actually know what they are and command a suitable price. Locally, you'll walk into a pet shop and ask, "What are those?" and the answer comes, "Those are flowerhorns. I don't know what kind. Five dollars each." It's pitiful. But, yes, if you can find enough wealthy customers who kill their fish on a regular basis and need to replace them, flowerhorns are an option. Your first batch will saturate the local market and demand will drop severely after the first few rounds of your fish are bought. FH make a good feeder, though, so if you're willing to sell them for .50 cents each, it's a go. :)

I would think Rays the most profitable until someone breeds ST!!!

If you're very stringent about your water quality, and have the necessary equipment on hand; then I would think either Altum Angelfish, or Zebra Plecos. They are some of the hardest fish to breed, but if you can pull it off; it's good money. They are two of south americas most sought after species in the aquarium trade, and even tank raised specimens demand a high price in most cases. I personally would target the zebra pleco, simply because they are listed as illegal to export from their native waters, as well as the fact that they are always in high demand.

I have a friend who owns a LFS and also has a large greenhouse with over 20,000 gallons in breeding tanks. He breeds mostly fancy plecos and corydoras, because that is what makes money. I suppose it varies from area to area, but that is what sells around here.

L46 zebra. Especially in light of their natural habitat being threatened by the Belo Monte Dam project. This species is very hard to capture and not very easy to breed and it's possibly facing extinction in the wild.
