Flowerhorn and Pleco compatibility?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Another case of buy first, research later.
You probably have a common pleco, they will reach at least a foot long in a short amount of time and then over it's lifetime it will only continue to grow.
Your Flowerhorn will also reach about a foot in length in a short amount of time. They both need to be moved into a much larger tank, asap. Waiting until the FH gets to be 3.5 inches long to put him in a larger tank is not ideal. Find at least a 55 gallon tank. A 75 would be better.
The betta will be great for your 15 gallon tank, after the FH and Pleco are moved to a larger tank. I know people keep them in cups with under a liter of water, but they actually like to swim and a betta would love a 15 gallon tank.
All of your tanks will need the appropriate heaters and filters. Bubblers are not required, they are just extras.
Can I just sell the pleco?

Betas require a filter and a heater/80~ water. Also require a 5 gallon tank. Sure you could keep a beta alive in a bowl, with 90% water changes daily. But still probably won't live its full life span.

Great choice of fish, just wrong house! I sold my FH because he out grew his 75g. He also lived with a 10" pleco. The betta stands no chance once the FH settles in. Take the advice of natural born and either get rid of FH or buy a new set-up. Must be a MINIMUM of 55g. Check Craigslist or even the classifieds on here. If you ask for help here, you will certainly get it. Good luck. And BTW, Flowerhorns are amazing fish and require research. I suggest reading and learning and definitely getting one!!!

Wow, how many times do I have to say this. Many people will say that you should have a minimum of 75 gallons for the FH, but moving it to a 55 gallon is a good start.

Sorry dude, i'm such a newbie and know nothing about FH before I discover this forum. Will get a new tank soon :)

That's great news. Often people get so excited about the prospect of having a new fish that they don't slow down and do research ahead of time. At least you seem like you are going to head down the path to setting up the appropriate home for your fish.

Well who gave me advices and supports? You guys! Thank you for your kindness :')

You just get rid of that pleco in the meantime you upgrade setup. For your solo FH I'd say as a minimun you'd need a 55 gal, however in this hobby when you think about getting a tank, get the biggest you can afford.
