why would/should i stop using any? did i not pay for them too? my point is that if i wasn't being forced to pay for these services, i could choose and prioritize where my money goes.

do you think it's fair to forcibly take peoples money (via taxes) and spend it on things you deem good for them? why do you feel that you have more right to their property than they do?

"Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country" JFK inaugural speech.
So, Scatman, paying your taxes are part of what you can (but don't want to) do for your country. NOT paying taxes is what you can ( and seem to want to) do for yourself and 'screw the country'.

“When facism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.” Sinclair Lewis, US Nobel prize for literature winnner

We ALL payed for them...that's the point.

It's not possible to extract your "share" of a public road...or bridge...or food inspector...and go off on your own...

And each of us building our own makes no sense either.

"Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country"

i'm not asking for anything. seems like everyone else is though--actually, they're not asking, they're taking.

it's funny you quoted that, you should take that advice: "Ask not what your country can do for you" so quit asking for schools, roads, firemen, subsidies, so on and so on.

Ever lived anywhere WITHOUT public infrastructure? No sewers. No paved roads. No clean, running water. No law and order or judicial system (other than warlords with private armies).

It's awesome, lemme tell ya!

yes it is possible. i pay for tolls and registration, why should those expenses come from taxes instead of electable fees, such as tolls and registration fees? why should people without cars pay these taxes? and as for inspectors; there are tons of private consumer watchdog groups out there that do just that. just because you can't imagine a free market alternative doesn't mean they don't or wouldn't exist. government is not the only answer to these problems.

so i'll ask again; do you think it's fair to forcibly take peoples money (via taxes) and spend it on things you deem good for them? why do you feel that you have more right to their property than they do?

Scatman:
Here's the recent story of a guy who thought as you do about fire services...until his house burnt down for an unpaid $75 fee as the fire dept stood by and watched. I guess you are hoping this doesn't happen to you.

re the JFK quote, so evidently from your posts in this thread you are only interested in what your country can do for you and have no intention of giving back in any way. That is not most peoples' idea of patriotism, but as per my other quote, you'll find some way to wrap it in the flag.

it sounds like her idea is that taxes are for schools, roads, cops and firemen (and whatever else she whims). i strongly disagree. if you want these things, you pay for them imo. how can someone say "here we bought you this, by the way you owe us money now". thanks, but no thanks, i'm fully capable of spending my own money!

i stated before that government was created to protect individual rights and that's it. anything more than that is a violation of the rights it was created to protect. government should only pay for what is essential to protect individual rights, the rest is up to society or the individual.

I agree with Mr. Scatman here 100%. If these services are truly important to the majority of society then they will be voluntarily paid for. If they cant come up with the funds then it seems society didnt really want that item, and has no right to steal with guns the money from anyone.

what have i said that make you think there would be "No law and order or judicial system"?

apparently you don't pay attention so i'll say it again: "i stated before that government was created to protect individual rights and that's it. anything more than that is a violation of the rights it was created to protect. government should only pay for what is essential to protect individual rights, the rest is up to society or the individual."

if the public wants infrastructure, they'll build it. and they'll build it with donations and fees instead of stolen money.

You just contradict yourself each time you post.
Usually this is known as 'cognitive dissonance'.

how would you pay a road toll if not driving a car on it?

"tons of private watchdog groups'?
yet the TP and GOP would do away with consumer protection agencies as part of their stated policies.

You seem to like quotes, so here's a relevant one for you from Mark Twain:
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
I'll put it in simpler terms so that you can understand: If you keep your mouth shut, you won't put your foot in it.

BTW, National sentiment , according to polls, is running about 70%-30% in favor of the OWS protests.
You are on the wrong side of history on this one

What if the fire department said he needed to pay 1000 dollars? Should he not have the right to refuse? What if he installed his own fire deterrants such as a sprinkler system? Or he felt there was a better organization nearby that would put out his fire cheaper and faster?

On topic however, I am one of the organizers for my local occupy protest.
