I just went to the LFS to pick up some Synodontis for my 80g tank and they had a used Fluval Profile 1200 90g for sale due to being a customer return due to a leak which they will fix.

It would cost me £200 (UK) and would include 4 x T5 lights, stand and a 405 external canister, the cheapest I could buy brand new is £624 delivered.

It would look like this:

and would replace my Rena 80g here:

Pros
An extra 10 gallons
Pre drilled in base for inlet and outlet
Larger undertank space suitable for a sump

Cons
It wouldn't quite match the rest of my current furniture (mexican pine) but then neither did the one above

I could sell my existing tank for roughly what I could buy that one for. Does this sound a good deal or not? I could also sell the 405 to fund my sump.

How easy is it to design a sump if the inlet and outlet are at the base of the tank?

DO IT

For this 90g tank. I would ideally like to run anything up to 10 x turnover. So I would need an overflow of 1.25"

There are two holes in the base, not sure what size they are? Any idea? Could I just use both of them for the outlet with two vertical tubes attached and then a spray bar fed in from the top for the return?

FOUND THIS:

The person used both pipes for the outlets and had the return pipe going in between them.

Does that sound the best idea?

Do the outlet tubes even need the U-bends on them or could they just be completely vertical?

If you have two plain bulkheads like that, take advantage of a Herbie overflow system. Very easy to set up and gets rid of all the noise and gurgle, which is important for any tank that's in a living space. Then you can add your return where ever you like. Sounds like a nice setup, I'd go for it!

can you give me a link for a herbie setup, googled for some and still seem to be loads of methods of doing so?

I actually found that and am now on page 3 but still don't get it. Do you have a decent pic explaining it?
