WTF, man I would be so pissed off! That is terrible, Really sorry for your lost. Any clue to how they may have died,ie change of food, another fish stress them out, any possibilities? Now the question is how long do Lei's actually live in capativity, do they have the life span as other arrows do??

Wow... Both of em died? Thats f'ed. They say that aro's have the power to protect you from bad luck and harm. The thing is that they protect you from the bad luck/harm by sacrificing themselves... Maybe your aro's were protecting you (from a car accident or something like that?). I have had an experience similar to yours where one of my beloved aro's decided to "commit suicide". It started to freak out out of no where and bang its head into the glass until it was knocked out/paralized and died. Never figured out why it did that... Water parameters were perfect, it was healthy and eating, and never freaked out before. I could bang the glass all I wanted, dance around it, play peek-a-boo, and all it would do was look at me and wait for food. He had no tankmates and nothing was different/out of the ordinary for a while. My dad was on a trip though and he loved that aro as much as I did (he was pissed when he came home). Maybe it was protecting him? Or maybe it was bored to death... I don't believe fish commit suicide though... I'm sure it wasn't a lifespan problem with your leis as I had a lei for 6 maybe 7 years before the stupid thing jumped out of the tank (knocked off a heavy 8 foot piece of 2 by 4 while opening the cover to jump out) and hit the ground so hard it was f'ed and died. Seriously though I would call your water supply company and see if they made any changes or ask for a report. Again sorry for your loss... It must hurt.

I wish I know. They've been in that tank with other arowana, and other fish for months, feeding twice a week on shimp and fish fillet, daily on Hikari sticks. The only change I made recently was switch from basa fillet to tilapia fillet, but they ate them as much as they ate basa fillet. Other arowana and other fish are fine. What upset me most is that they were acting normal just 3-5 hours before I found them dead. My wife thinks they got spook, jumped and hit their head

I would call the water supply company and find out if they shocked the water system. I know after rains they add a bunch of chemicals. Sorry for the loss dude. Everytime i read one of these threads i want to hug my black aro tightly.

I feel like out of all the fish I've probably owned over 150 different species of fish (fresh and saltwater) within the past 15 years I've had the strongest attachment to my aro and I wouldn't know what to do if he just died for no reason one day but I do believe that they do die to protect the people around them and who care for them and I feel you my first silver jumped out in the middle of the night but sorry for your loss and do you plan on getting some more?
