im not sure what he is, he was sold as a red shoulder severum. when i bought the 5 of them, they were all about an inch.
my largest is at 4in. i took a picture of him doing his normal ritual of sitting in the open and flares his fins.
he flares them every few seconds and usually chases the other severums if they come close to him.
so if anyone has any idea of what he could be, let me know. thanks for the help!
This is Tank.

Usually at 4" the red has started to appear. There's always the chance it's a late bloomer. Right now I'd say it looks like a common green severum.

thats what i thought too. usually though when i feed them live or frozen food they turn pale and there stripes appear. i've never seen that happen in a green severum...i always thought they're blues and greens would pop? either way, there the most interesting cichlid i've kept so far.

There's still a chance that it's a rotkeil (aka red shoulder). Some would only show a little red and, Like Ryan said, some can be late bloomers. Take a closer look at the neck area to see if there are reddish/brownish dots...

Well, "green sevs" shouldn't have bars like that...

Here's an old pic of a pair I had. A friend bred them from rotkeil parents .... fairly sure they were (supposed to be) rotkeils. I grew them out from babies hoping to see some stunners, but they never showed much red, especially the female. I think it might happen to some tank bred rotkeils.

Compared to a wild pair I later kept:

could anyone post some green sev's about the same size as mine if anyone currently has any? the anal fins of my severum has an orange hue to it, im not sure if thats common on all severums or not. i do notice some dots around the neck of the fish. if these are greens, care to show me what im in stored for?

It looks like a red shoulder to me. I have red shoulders green sevs and raspberrys all about the same size 2-2.5 inches in a 100 gallon. The red shoulders stripes are like yours the greens have a long stripe on the tail and the raspberrys have all stripes but are starting to get to get color on their bellies. If I could I would post a picture but dont have any right now.

I agree. The common greens I've seen at that size have their bars running all the way up. Except for the tail bar, Rotty's usually don't run through. It should become more evident as it grows bigger.
