Your thoughts on recent mini tiger boom

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The fact that they are willing to ship large quantities of them is even more scary because at 1/2 inch they are Delicate seriously leave em in the river till they are like 2.5-3 inches natural selection would eliminate some of the variation in stripes and there would be sturdier fish. If most die when you fish out babies but most live when collected at 2 inches why not leave them there. I got word from one of my suppliers that these ARE all wild caught

One more thing to add in, not sure how relevant this is but we haven't had 2" ITs on our order sheets in over a month and in that time mini tigers have taken their place. Normally I wouldn't think twice about it except for the fact that 2" ITs have been a staple on out listings for years from what I'm told. I'm going to try to make a trip to our supplier and see if they don't have them because of the "popularity" of minis or if they just aren't coming in period.

So this may not be big news but I figure it's still on topic. I went to my store's supplier and asked a few questions about these mini tigers. Though it isn't uncommon for smaller tigers to increase in numbers depending on the season each year, the owner told me he's never seen tigers this small in all of the years he's been supplying fish. Also may be old news but for those who may not have known all of these minis are coming from Thailand. I was also told I could be assured a special order NGT between 3"-5". I can't wait for it to arrive! :D

I don't know how much weight i'd put in that. There are none here, i went to Chatuchack yesterday. If they are coming from here they are only passing through from Indonesia.

don't think they are farm bred, as i have not seen any reported with wild fish symptoms like bloated tummy, internal parasites etc...

my ex-aquaculture lecturer i met at a recent lab animal expo told me its possible though a lot of research must be done...

It is possible at scientific levels, and is done in Thailand at scientific levels, but "results are limited". Limited to what i could never find out. 1 in a 1000, is limited. I was told it's very difficult.
