Please any leads would be helpful. I need glass shrimp or ghost shrimp until i can wean my pup stingrays off of them. Does anyone know where I can purchase in bulk. As my lfs is breaking me @25cent each I have two rays to feed and I am willing to set up a tank for the shrimp to raise them until these rays show interest in other prey. Please MFK HELP!!! LOL

hmm, if you had put foresight into it, you could have easily bred rcs for them to eat. as it is it would take 2-3 months to get berried females to have young and for them to grow up.

Another foresight comment but... if you had bought some marbled crayfish they produce quite a few young that start out life at 1/4" and in less than a month can be over 1". Takes from 4-6 months for the crayfish to start producing eggs and then another month before they hatch so not a solution by any means. Do you think the small freshwater gammarus would do? I have read numerous posts about people talking about how prolific they are and some even called them invasive in an aquarium without predators!

If what I read is true you start off with a few dozen and in 4 weeks you have swarms of 1/4" prey for your rays. How many shrimps do you feed on a weekly basis anyway?

That said marbled crayfish might still be a good investment as they can grow into something your rays can still eat as adults? Just my .001

This is why I bought cloning crays, only had 3 spawns so far... been over 6 months.

Say someone had a specific number of cherry shrimp they would need. Would you be able to estimate the number of female and male shrimps needed to get approximately that number of young? Or rather... how often does a female shrimp berry? How many males are needed?

Figure 3 months for them to grow to about an inch?

If a cherry shrimp produced about 25 young every month someone feeding 100+ a week to some hungry pups would need 16 females + males to have a steady supply of good sized feeders in 3 months... if its really that easy it sure beats using marbled crayfish for awhile anyway when they get bigger a more sizeable meal might be better. Even if its 32 female shrimps to get what you need its doable for someone buying $25 in feeders a week IMO but dont know how long term your shrimp needs are.

Live blackworms and earthworms/nightcrawlers are relished by picky rays. Ive never had a ray refuse them for me. They are also the nutritional superior to ghost shrimp until you get the rays on other foods.
