How long would a plywood tank last rough estimate are they as good as a glass tank? I I mean I know it would be as good as you make it but I mean even if I was the best wood smith out there how long would they hold up? Is it worth it making one rather then buying a glass or acrylic big tank?

Good question, you're not saving 50% if not you only get 50% of the life.

Well I only ask because if I'm going to put so much time and effort building one and in like a couple of years the wood rots out and I have to build another its a waste but I see so many guys on here building them and they come out super nice don't get me wrong I mean some are really  but like I said how worth it is it?

Properly built, a plywood tank can last twenty years or longer. The tanks I have seen 10+years old were built using fiberglass to seal the wood inside and they had glass viewing versus acrylic.
People dont realize that a standard glass tank will require maintenance from simple cleaning to removing the old silicone re-sealing.
If the tank isnt moved around alot and isnt exposed to the elements it will last a lot longer.

Now would it matter what wood would a better wood last longer?

I would definitely use plywood over particleboard and wouldn't even consider fiberboard.

I wouldn't use partical board either I met like oak or any other better wood

Marine grade plywood, 3/4" minimum. The higher the ply count(layers of veneer sheets) the stronger the plywood....also more money. Speaking of money, solid wood would cost a fortune and plywood is stronger anyway.

Never seen marine grade plywood, probably a special order item in Chicagoland.
