I know this isn't recommended but i need the cichlids to get alittle bigger before adding them into my 55g growout tank. Also i realize goldfish are cold water fish and cichlids are aggressive. I have a 30g with one goldfish 6'', two rt 2'', and a dovi 2''. My plan is to keep them in there till they get 3'' or they start messing with goldfish. I have a penguin 350 for the filter and i keep the temp at 73. I do wc once a day 15g. Tank shows no sign of any ammonia or nitrites. So is this ok for the goldfish and cichlids short term? I tried finding a happy medium temp. Also the cichlids don't bother the goldfish at all because they are still small. They kinda look up to him. Like a cat caring for a baby lion even though the cat will get killed long term.

Don't flame plz i can't get another tank now and they will be food in the 55g and 125g. ty

Hi, I strongly recommend you dont house your cichlids with the goldfish for the ovbious reason that they require different water parameters and the likley hood that your young cichlids will still nip at the goldfishes long flowing fins.

Hes fine i watch it all day. As soon as any fins are nipped they are out. I know the per aren't the same i was just wondering if it would be ok short term for about a month.

I think it's fine, water parameters maybe different, but for short term. It's no worse than the way they are housed in fish stores for months at a time.... Imo

Why not divide one of the other tanks and grow the cichlids out on one side of the divider?

You could also buy a giant plastic bin/trashcan and put a sponge filter in it, and just keep your goldfish there.

Cichlids can tolerate lower temps just fine. i would just be worried for nipping but if they are fine dont worry about it. those fish will be big enough in no time. just keep up with water changes :) and of course any nipping but im actually did something similar to this not long ago. my aunt wanted some baby kois cause i get them cheap and i ahve to keep them in with my cichlid grow out at the same sizes and i never saw any problems. they were 3 3" butterfly koi and 2-3" green terror, convict and similar thing and the koi were completely un harmed for the month plus they were in there.
