Legal = price reduction is total crap.

The fish are legal over here as long as they have the C.I.T.I.E.S chip and cert. The thing is we don't really have a black market for fish over here. Even legally obtained they are ridiculously hard to come by.

Yup that's what I've been saying too. A lot of ppl think Asian Aro prices in Asia are dirt cheap but they aren't by a lot. Even in HK and the Philippines for RTG, SR and xback your still paying 400-1100 CAD avg. I've been there and It's only cheaper by 100-200 max. Maybe if you order in bulk direct from farms then yes but for 1 fish it's all about the same. Only differences in cheaper prices would be saving us the importing and shipping fees. In conclusion legalizing the fish will not make it significantly cheaper. The benefits legalizing it for the U.S would be no more paying outrages black market prices. The U.S will still pay the same as what legal countries would pay.

Price would not drop drastically if the fish were legalized. In Canada they are legal but still cost a lot. Price has gone down in the recent years but this is to do additional farms, and higher competition, between the farms. It is still supply and demand which is controlled by the farms. Also, even though it could be legalized setting up a farm might be a lot harder to do than people realize. If it wasn't wouldn't there be lots of arowana farms in Canada?

If it is so easy to breed them why don't people just set up ST breeding colonies and become rich. It is because there are certain aspects of the environment that lead themselves better to raising arowanas.

Although it is legalized, it still might be an endangered species, which requires micro chipping for import, at least in Canada so there is an expense. Also, what about shipping, additional expense which could continue to rise due to external factors like oil prices going up, higher import tax etc.

I guess if it is so cheap to raise the fish getting it directly from the farm's should be way cheaper right:

At the end of the day the fish will be a commodity, which will always be based on their supply and demand, as well as perceived value. I am not saying that price wouldn't come down a bit, as we have seen in the past years, but to think that you would get an rtg or xback for a lot less is crazy..

i have found a few around me and rtgs are about 1500
im in texas. between 600 and 1500 is a big gap, IF (i wish i could make that bigger) they become legal i believe they will EVENTUALLY drop in price once these black market guys realize they dont have your nuts in a vise if you want there fish.
i know a guy that sells GATF for 1200 bucks at 3in EACH!!! these laws just make the criminals more money.

us price = price in canada + smuggling fee
with the ban lifted, they will probably cost a little bit more than they do now in Canada due to the sudden increase in demand from the us market.

MerLion Emerald Red Tail: $ 200.00 ~ $ 300.00 , assuming this is an RTG, the cost for this fish in the us is > 1000 usd
