Should I sell my Dovii's?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ya I have grown him from 2 inch It would definitely be hard to part with him, like I said first Dovii I have ever had, just worried he will all ways be like that. I heard alot that they take a good while to really show there true beast so I guess I will have to be patient and let him mature. Thanks guys.

Ya his female. I just got them
Back from my buddies place, he took them cause I had a tank busy on me, so they were in a 180 for about 3 months, he was shy there too. But I know there is a monster in him cause when I had him prior he would attack my Boston terrier just go crazy on him! Yet scared of the hand that feeds, lol

I don't have he experience with dovii but I would love to have one and the one you have is a beautiful one don't sell it you will regret it. If I were you I would hold on to hat beauty

I don't have any exp with dovii but everything else I've had in a species tank that was shy I'd put in a different type and it seemed to bring out the more dominate attitude in the fish so you could try that

Sometimes I would be happy if my dovii was calm like yours to be honest. My male is so aggro sometimes I have to ask people who come over to not get too close to the tank on his "bad days" or he damages himself, other days like right now I could care less he is "normal" and just angry not aggro. I would love it if mine were calm, but I also love mine even though he is a nut case because you have to expect/appreciate that if your going to keep dovii. If you want to keep a certain species, you have to take the good or the bad which ever the case may be, CA's are a night and day difference one day from the next.

I will agree though that once they spawn you are talking about a completely different fish. Step up your water changes and they should spawn for you in no time and maybe then decide?

I had a 7" male and a 5" female. They would dart and hide in separate top corners of the tank and only dart out to grab food when I was in the room. I understand the frustration. BUT.... after their first spawn, the were very protective of the eggs/fry. HOWEVER, after I took the fry out and a couple days after, they were back to their old shy personalities until the next spawn. I didn't keep them much longer after that but if I had the tank space, I'd invest in a pair for the long haul. I say keep them if you can get another growout tank for the Umbees.

He looks great! But im shocked hes still shy at 1year and 10'' my guy came out of the shy spell at about 6'' and now is 10 or 11'' and a complete nut.

mine was shy when he was in the bedroom grow out tank wouldnt even come out to feed untill i left the room moved him to a tank in the fish room that has alot more traffic with the kids running around all the time after about aweek he started coming out more now u can run at the tank and he dosent even flinch hes about 10in
