Good choices there. Can't go wrong with those. But not to derail. From one 155g bowfront owner to another. Here is my wacky crazy blend of mine a while ago just for the heck of it. It lasted for 2 months before turd got nippy on clown loaches. Gouramy, eel, aro went somewhere else and cichlids to my 195 gal. Excuse the squeezed frame as I held my phone vertical rather than sideways for widescreen, lol

I swear on the cichlid side of things. You and I share the same taste, lol! Lovin the selections you got.

As for the wood arrangements. It should be fine. It is more for visuals to please the wife right? As for the substrate, black sand is fine as long as their is a lot of bright lighting for peak coloration for cichlids. Of course, there is lots of drawbacks to that, i.e. algae and more algae.... Personally, I would go with natural brown pool filter sand. It's cheap and it is cheap... Black sand cost too much in my opinion.

Ok good input, wood was acctually all me in the 125 only one piece and all the fish seem to croud, wanted to go for a natural look with some java from my planted tank on the wood. But the zonatus and hartwegi seem to like to eat plants, the ate a few swords in the grow out tank. I like the open look in your tanks but I also wanted to cover the overflows. Lighting has been an issue as well want some bright lights to really show off there color but dont want the algie, I have a 40w uv I v been saving for this tank. Inoriginally went with the black for optimal coloration on the fish but been thinkin the natural sand might look better
