I've been a member of various local and national fish clubs for the past 25 years or so and can't even begin to list all of that I've learned and experienced as part of being a member.

From getting to hear presentations from world authorities on fish (the guys who write the books!) to buying super cool fish for pennies on the dollar to winning free tank set-ups in raffles (Thanks Li / MFK)...to just meeting and hanging out with people in my area with similar interests, I can't imagine being "into" fish and not being in a fish club.

Most clubs cost next to nothing to join (my home club, CCA - www.capitalcichlids.org - is $20 per year, which includes meetings / events nearly every month...with a speaker, food, raffle, etc...basically for the cost of a cup of coffee per month) and most towns are metro areas have a club. Our club has ~200 members of all ages, races and levels of experience.

I'm interested why more MFK-ers aren't in fish clubs. Or maybe they are and just don't say it.

Are you in a fish club? Which one(s)?

If not, why? Thought of starting one?

Thanks,
Matt

Hi,

I've always thought of joining a fish club, because you can meet people with the same interests( I have no friends that like fish) amd there are interesting fish, etc.
But around here there are no fish clubs, and certainly none specializing on special fish.

I would love to be a part of a local club, but the nearest one is over an hour's drive each way. That, coupled with being married-with-children, keeps me from being able to join.

There are clubs in the area but every time I bring up my RTC I get chewed out for it. Or glazed over looks of are you kidding me. In my area the concept of any tank over 120 is just to much for the average redneck.

An hour's not too bad, once per month! :)

I usually bring my oldest (almost 7) and some crafts and games to keep her and other kids occupied...we usually have about a dozen or so kids at meetings...We even have kids raffles most months (usually a 10 or 20g tank set-up)!
