Hey buddy, talapia in america is FARM raised soley for the purpose of consumption so these particular fish are breed to die for nutritional value, hardly the same as a wild fish in a river going about its day only to die in a bucket.

No they aren't wild. They are all stocked after winter. FARM RAISED as well as the tilapia! They are solely raised to be eaten. Season is open for them and you can take as many as you want! Some guy walked out with a trash can rolling COMPLETELY full of fish! No bass though, out of season. But this guy had a TON of fish! They were in water as well! And you guys are worried about me taking 6 little fish! These people take them by the hundreds! The lake is stocked for fisherman to catch ANYTHING they want.

Either way, if I dont have the room for the fish in my tanks, I can always put them in my 3/4 acre pond. So either way they get a home.

The issue CLEARLY is not one of conservation. The issue is that you took 6 live fish and killed them out of carelessness because you have no idea what you're doing.

America has no meaning u sure bout that? And ur all saying killing fish from lakes is bad u buy tilapia that have been killed out of lakes haven't u ? To feed ur fish ? So basically ur doing the same thing

Yeah, because killing something to give something else life is the same as wastefully killing 6 fish through ignorance.
Look, I'm in the same boat as you guys in that I'm also a minor and living with my parents and I wish I could take every opportunity to acquire new animals that presents itself, but the truth is that you're keeping them for them just as much as for you, and since their life is in YOUR hands when you own them, it's about them more than it is you. If you're keeping animals in a manner that's detrimental to them for your own benefit, you're selfish, and you have no business keeping animals.

bream are plentiful and i could care less about the other people keeping em, because they were keeping them to eat and not go to waste. and if you have a 3/4 acre pond why take them through the stress of moving from one body of water to another. at the end of the day you have no business keeping these fish.

:iagree:
Well said.

Aside from everything already said in this thread...native fish take up more water and in my experience are pretty boring. They aren't usually very colorful and normally don't do much besides find a place to hang out and stay there....until it's time to eat. Then they come out, get food and go back to their spot. I've kept small catfish, bass, bluegill, crappie, etc...all the same. About the most amusing I've seen them was when I temporarily house a couple of bluegill for a few days in a tank on my back deck and that was probably only because the tank was empty and there was nothing for them to hide behind.

I'm sure the town/state would love to know you were taking stock they paid for and putting it in your private pond...
