MY FIRST FESTAE IS STARTING TO CHANGE COLORS FINALLY!!!!! -PICS-

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well it takes a lot of personal experience to be able to visually sex them. You can look at as many pics online as you want and they will still fool you. There is a chance that it could be a female but from the pics I'm still gonna say male until further notice:) BTW the bars have nothing to do with the sex, also the dorsal on a male can get dark top which has fooled a lot of people.

True... But by looking at the middle picture that he posted i defiantly feel it is male.

Can you guys tell the quality of Festae this might be? For the Festae experts
what would you think if you owned this guy, what would you expect its potential to be?

I see a lot of pics of Festae ive researched over time, good and bad and mixes, Overall
in a way if you were to rate this one or any input on what youd expect.

Sorry but I can't give you an honest opinion based off two pics, especially since they don't look like the same fish. I will be happy to give it a shot if you could get more pics up:)

Ok! No problem at all I will have additional pics loaded tonight. The pics will be current and taken tonight. We have researched and looked at so many pics of Festae I just would really like to know "the quality" if I could put it that way. And an additional note is there a specific food that you guys feed to Festae to bring out their colors? We strictly feed the pouches of micro Hikari Gold "Red Bag" once a day every afternoon.
And generally speaking is there an overall size that you can pretty much guarantee the sex as a certain size? And if so what size usually is

I feed twice a day but I also do lots of water changes. Krill is a great source of food to get color results. You can get pellets, freeze dried, or even frozen and add to the diet. I have been fooled before but I can usually tell the sex of festae as early as 3.5" but most of the time it takes up to 5". And that's for a trained eye. For some people it has taken up to the time they have paired off and start displaying breeding colors lol. Anyways its something you have to experience for yourself to fully understand. Practice makes perfect:)

I pretty much feed mine the same.. I feed them Bio Gold +, Spurilina Brine shrimp frozen, Freeze Dried Krill, They even take down the massivore when i put it in for my oscar! lol But out of all the food so far that i fed them i feel the Spurilina Brine Shrimp (frozen) is my favorite to feed them. Really seemed to bring out the bars in my male really nicely.

Ive had.mine for over 7 months and still no body color :p. I feed xtreme big fella, frozen blood worms, nls large fish, omega 1 shrimp pellets, nutrafin shrimp pellets, and veggie tablets. So lucky you i got mine at .5" tho and upgraded the tanks slowly
