what would YOU do with a 225g 3' wide tank?

I love the idea of the aro's (especially since you can actually keep a silver in there!) but just to throw out something different, how about a larger school of rhoms? Piranha are supposed to be a lot of fun, and you have room for a decent sized school. I would have loved to have a smaller school in my 180, but they're not legal in my state.

Just tossing it out there. Good luck with your decision. I understand how it can be tough to choose when you have so many options.

Native tanks are illegal in canada, or at least manitoba. Why not get a. Asian arrow..... Just to make the americans jealous :) ya try snakeheads or a large sa/ca cichlid like dovii or umbee

i will definatly go along the way of the catfish, quite a few choices there i especially liked my red tail catfish (sorry forgot the proper name), another choice would be to have a few paroon sharks (aka naja shark) in there, but be warned these catfish can and will eat anything half their size (lost about a dozen 4 inch tiger oscar to the redtail, i know a beginner's mistake)...one final advice look at your tank dimension and chose the fish according to the guidelines that i have found out from many a experienced people ....
1. the length of teh tank should be at least 5 times the fish length
2. the tank width should be at least 1.5 to 2 times the fish length
3. the tank depth should be at least 3-4 times the fish height

I have a 220 so u got five galloms on Me but I have an aro, 2 Oscars, and a pleco. I neen thinkin bout what I could do to fill it out myself. Thought about cats or bichirs but I figure once all the ones I have get big itll prolly be good cause I got all levels of the column goin.

Hey all, loving some of these suggestions!
I wasn't aware my tank was large enough for an arowana. I would like to have a group of fish rather than one solitary aggressive fish. this is why I'm steering away from cichlids for a while cause since I started I've ended up getting rid of more than I actually bought purely cause of aggression.

the tank dimensions are 5x3x2. 2 high, 5 long and 3 wide.

I would like to stay clear of african cichlids cause I already kept them and I find them to be ridiculously overpriced. you need tonnes of them to stop aggression and in my tank size I would be spending more on africans than I would on marine species!

I personally wouldn't do an arowana with only 5' long... however the width is nice. Since no one has said it yet, what about a HUGE shoal of clown loaches? They're highly entertaining in my opinion. You could probably get 50ish of them 2" and under for a pretty good deal if you bought them all together. The nice part about clowns and most other species of loaches is that they mix with nearly everything from HUGE central americans all the way to fragile things like discus and neons.
