Carnivorous African Cichlid Tank ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would suggest the Malawi Eye Bitter (Dimidiochromis compressiceps), Livingstonii (Nimbochromis livingstonii), and put in a few Electric Blue Hap( Sciaenochromis fryeri),which should do fine if they have some rocks to hide in. Red Fin Kandango (Copadichromis borleyi), and Zebra Tilapia could also be added. The Zebras are active hunters and very aggressive.

if you can find them rhamphochromis, malawi gar (don't know scientific name) and exochochromis would make very interesting additions. they are elongated pursuit predators. Most predatory african cichlids get between 8 and 12 inches aside from buccos and champsochromis, which can grow over 18 inches in rare circumstances

wow these fish are awesome, love the elongated ones especially. thank you!

Any dimidiochromis species, champsochromis caeruleus, champsochromis spilorhynchus, fossorochromis rostratus, buccochromis species, stigmatochromis species, tyrannochromis species, aristochromis christyi "malawi hawk", mylochromis species, nimbochromis species, cyrtocara moorii, exochromis anagenys....

(basically any hap cichlids)

BE PREPARED to get a bigger tank down the road though :) 220gs+

Rhamphochromis will be hard to find

I put a pair of 2.5 inch jewel cichlid in my tank, and now my 4 inch A. Christyi is constantly following them, tilting its body, etc. The jewels are too large to be taken right now...but I hope they grow a little faster than the A Christyi.
