Black Diamond substrate?

Anyone heard of this stuff? Apparently you can get it at Tractor Supply. Told it has pieces of coal slag in it, but people are using it in their tanks...Any words of wisdom or caution??

I just picked up some green Texas from a breeder and he keeps all his breeding plecos in that stuff so Id call it safe.

I've used it in several tanks. Wash it well, Float out impurities.
I had algae blooms after the first tank, But not since.
And it brings out the fishes colors.

sand blasting stuff IIRC.

Yes, It's sandblasting sand. Buy the coarsest grade they have. I usually get 20/40.
The tanks are a work in progress, But thanks.

How long have you used it? No changes in the water parameters long term?

I've been using it for a few months now. Got four tanks changed over now. They stay cleaner than pea gravel. And I like the look. No other issues.
