MY Big Very Old Red Devil........... Big, Bad and Old....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Congrats and well done, looks like lots of care went into keeping him.

Has there been threads showing the oldest/longest kept fish on MFK? (Just an idea if it has not)

There are many DEDICATED here.

Still kickin' at 12 years old? Looks like he won't be needing a cane or a wheelchair anytime soon.

thats awesome that you kept him that long. ... and still a good looking fish.

i rehomed my 2 midas at my LFS about 5 months ago because they were fitting in with my Cen Am community tank. 4 days ago i was at the LFS , they still have both of them. the male is HUGE. with a nice hump head. some white patches. ... almost makes me want to remove all my community in my 140 gallon and have a solo RD tank. almost. lol

Very nice.

Personally, I rotate stock until I find the ones that I can't part with. I always make sure they go to good homes, though. Never to the LFS. I've re-homed a BIG male festae, a male JD, and a female mayan in search of the fish I'm now in for the long haul with. None of their personalities really appealed to me, but all went to good experienced fish keepers homes. I've also had to re-home my male Dovii due to having to get rid of my 240 gallon tank and not having anywhere for the fish to go. That really sucked because I liked him a lot, but it was best for him.

Now I've got my big male hait that I'm in it for the long haul with. He's closing in on 3 years old, and hopefully he'll look as good as your RD in another 9.

That's awesome that you've had him that long. I have a red devil that I've had for seven years. My daughter who was five at the time named him Pretty. lol He was peeling at the time, getting picked on by other fish, and wasn't looking pretty at all. He broke his jaw years back trying to catch an African cichlid that was living with him at the time. Lol I've thought about selling him over the years, but I can't, and never will. He's part of the family. I'm trying to breed him at the moment. :)
