Water changes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have no idea what point or argument you're trying to make. Are you trying to make a justification for keeping toxic water in your tanks?

Justification that people believe every fish lives in perfect conditions in the wild so therefore our tanks need to be perfect also. I do water changes but my perimeters aren't perfect and have multiple fish living healthy long lives producing fry. Define toxic water because I guarantee your definition is going to be different from the next guy.

Can you provide information that proves otherwise? Most of the fish we keep come from central and south America. I gave you links on a detailed study that shows nitrates are basically non-existent in these river systems.

Toxic water in an aquarium...to me that means any reading of ammonia or nitrites and high concentrations of nitrates. That is why beneficial bacteria exist on this planet, to consume all these toxins. It's not easy to grow anaerobic bacteria to consume nitrates like in the wild so we take the next best approach; water changes.

If a body of water doesn't replenish it's water be it by inlets, springs, rainfall etc. it becomes stagnant and the fish die.

X2. Lakes rivers ect evaporate or slowly deplete elsewhere . Natural rain fill it back up .. = natural water change

When keeping fish in un natural glass boxes stress is always prevalent, the biggest job as fk is too keep that down as much as possible, this is achieved thru wc, healthy diet, no aggression, space etc....toxic water just pushes them to far and bad things happen, if you don't understand the importance of water quality I feel bad for ur fish.....lakes and rivers have their own bb, plants, and inhabitants, its an Eco system that relys on surface runoff to replenish evaporation, which, happens extremly fast, picture a million gallon tank with no lid.... Thus rain falls and channels back into rivers..... Makin it rain-->evaporation-->rain/condensation-->runoff, a very important role in this particular Eco system.

you may be confusing your puddle of water for a channel, where natural water and house water drains, thus the prevalence of ammonia. A river and lake by definition is the very opposite, encouraging plant and animal growth, while sustaining them at the same time.
