Some dat advice:
-feed your dat a variety of foods
-ignore it but do not ignore your maintenance/feeding schedule
-must be on a feeding schedule
Results:
-your dat will recog you are a source of food
-your dat will preform for you when he sees you, eventually
*not claiming to be a dat expert or anything but this works GREAT for my dats and all dats are different.

IMHO, some fish can be shy and if u feed them x times a day. They will recognize you more and more each time feed them. This will help them be more active like a Hungary dog in your fish tank like behavior much faster then not have a feeding schedule. This has worked for me even with really picky fish. Routine is key for my pets.
