You will need to upgrade if you hope to keep any of these fish. A 150 would be an ok growout for the first year then after that, you have to get BIG. 8x3 (360ish gallons) is the minimum foot print for ONE smaller ATF and you'll need something on the order of 1000 gallons for a group or a single GATF. You can get away with a smaller setup if you have tons of current and the tank is dedicated to and specialized for the ATF. I currently have a 7" fish growing out in a 150 who is very happy. I'm also running 4000ish gallons per hour of current in the tank to appease him. Other than current loving characins, there's not much that can cohab with the fish. If I get a dither that behaves in a way that stresses the GATF, I get rid of it as well. These fish are very specialized in their needs and if you don't cater to them, you'll have a very expensive dead fish.

+1 hit the nail right on the head, these fish have very specialized needs, and i'd also suggest, if you plan on getting one, to get it first before any other fish, and get him growing to at least 6-8 inches before adding any other fish.... tiger fish grow extremely slowly, thus other same sized fish will very quickly out grow and stress out, if not eat the tiger.... they are awesome fish though!!!

ya, don't let it suffer by putting it in a 90 gallon for life. You can keep a baby for a few months.

Im prob gona have to avoid it. My parents would kill me in half if i go and bring home a bigger tank than the 90 :(

You could go with a Hydrocynus Vittatus, or a Brevis. Vittatus will get around 2 ft long, And Brevis will get around a foot long. Brevis are pretty hard to find though.

I don't mean to question a member whose posts taught me a lot of what I know about predatory tetras... but do you really think a vatf would be good for life in a 90? Or just for a while (which I could get behind)?

If this is the case, none of the ATF species are a good fit for you at this time.

Kudos to you for doing your research BEFORE buying the fish. There are too many MFKers who buy these fish without the resources to care for them and it always ends badly.

What other species are you interested in? There are plenty of species that are suitable for a 90G.

I guess snakeheads. Iv been considerimg a rainbow snakehead. They don't get ro big and i at least have a fish with monster attitude. A jaguar chiclid was my last choice cuz i v heard nothing but evil things about them
