The crowd have spoken, DOWN WITH THE OSCARS BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
To be honest I don't like oscars for a few reasons - firstly they need way too big of a tank all for themselves, and I don't want to keep just a single specimen in my tank. I am a scientist, and I enjoy observing different types of behaviors, especially ones brought out by 'nature'. Tossing a ball in and watch it chase it doesn't really interest me that much, and really no interactions between it and other fish (besides 'omnomnomnom') does not cut it. Secondly, they're a bit... meh when it comes to how they act. Thirdly is I don't like how they look. They look ugly to me. Their colors are nice, but them, especially their face, is not.
Next up is probably the texas, H. cyanoguttatum. Imo they look way, way, way inferior to their cousins, the green texas (H. carpintis) and their small pearlings actually make them look very, very ugly.
Thirdly are blood parrots - I am impartial to the hybrid versus pure argument, imo either can be very nice, or not (my two most disliked cichlids are purebreeds after all). But I don't like how blood parrots are shaped.
Fourthly, red devils, midas and midevils and pink convicts. Some red devils, midas and midevils can look very nice, but most that peel into one color just looks way drab. Same with pink convicts, color = baddd.
And then the rest I'm cool with.
I don't really have a problem with a specific fish just because they're everywhere, or they're the 'in' thing, or they're
not the in thing, or labels (such as american versus african, or hybrid versus pure) or they're owned by specific people, or whatever. I hate/dislike (and like) fish based on their coloration, temperament, behaviour and all that.
