Should the New York Marathon be on this weekend?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would normally say yes, keep things going... but this situation is still ongoing. Diverting police, or any other support necessary for the race is taking away from those that still have needs.

It does seem insensitive to those people who may be suffering.I mean, can you cry over there, cuz we have a race to run! Clean up your totaled house and set up your memorial later, because a bunch of skinny,non-athletic nerds are going running today.

Marathon runners aren't athletes? Lol

I can see either way being ok. Cancelled or not. It might seem insensitive to some, others might welcome something positive during dark times.

With all the backlash, the sponsors of the marathon most likely pulled the plug. No money = No race. Cancelling the race was the right thing to do.

I'd have canceled it too. The police were requesting them to cancel it too. Why waste emergency personnel on something so insignificant while rescue/evac operations are still going? You really think officers should be protecting the routes and doing crowd control instead of helping the community?

And really? People need a distraction? WHO WATCHES A MARATHON? Distraction/ray of hope my arse. 90 percent of the participants are from out of state. It's not really for the locals anyways
