I'm Gonna be an Auntie!!

Now I'm super confused
some ppl call "Great"-whatevers just the basic thing. like you'd be summoned by the kid as plain "uncle sumo" or maybe a fam tags you with an abbreviated form like "Unc" or some other nickname for the person. We never called my great grandma "grandma" at all. she had a nickname "Bonner", but if I was telling my friend who she was I'd tell them she was my great grandma.
My great grandson knows his great aunt as "Ma-ah" which is a cultural affectionate term for grandma. the fam is teaching him that- although he doesn't SAY it yet.

But technically a grandpa's bro would be great uncle and you add another great for every previous generation right?

yeah, that's the Family Tree descriptive. but I've never seen anyone say "Hello great-uncle Joe" much less great-great uncle Joe.

It just seems like how ppl actually address their relatives (speaking to them) changes more & more, the further on out they are on the family tree.
or just in my world? LOL.
