I have an awesome Tat..my first Payara in a lot of years of fish keeping. I wish i would have tried one earlier because he is now one of my favorite fish. I did all my research and the dos and don'ts of keeping one but I've always pushed the envelope of what can be "kept together" succesfully. I do not believe every fish is created equal and just because a book says not to that it can't be done.....
Well....
I have had him a few months in a community setting with no issues...even fish I thought he may eat...no problem. So I picked up a 6 inch odoe pike last week. Pike was doing fine not skidish like the "book" said...eating pellets doing overall better than I could ever think...
So I walk by the tank tonight and I notice something white and stringy hanging from the pike...my first thought was **** parisites! So I have some metro but I recently read an article on using epsom salt...great the pike takes pellets I'll try this out....
Then the pike turned around...it wasn't stringy poop..he was eviscerated. It was intestines hanging out of the side of him!
And the only thing in the tank that could make that clean cut...my model citizen...the Tat...
Live and learn...sorry mister Odoe the book said it wouldn't be a problem....
