Unhappy Mala. Wolf

Since I undivided my 90 gallon, and gave the entire tank to my Wolf fish, he's done nothing but mope around. When the tank was divided, he seemed much more energetic, ESPECIALLY during feeding time. I'm not sure why he's so unhappy since only the decor of the tank changed when I removed the divider.

Any ideas? I'll post pics of his tank tonight. Maybe I have it aquascaped wrong for him. The only thing I can thing of that he might not like would be the 48" light. I suppose I could look for a shorter light fixture, but it wasn't a problem when the tank was divided....

For reference, the water parameters are excellent (thanks to the FX5 + Aquaclear 110 filtration combo); temp is between 80-82 degrees F.

Any help is appreciated.

He really doesn't seem happy. He still eats, but not as much as he used to.

way too bright needs way more cover. and feeder goldfish? if you are having to give it live dont feed it goldfish.

Floating plants it is! I thought it might be a bit bright for him.

In regards to the goldfish, those two were intended as a quick appetite revivor.... They've been living happily in this tank for over a week -_-

Also, if Chompers isn't a Mala wolf, what is he? I was almost positive he was a common wolf.

Nice looking wolf. I agree on dimming the lights. A quick fix until you can either buy a new light fixture or make one. Get some old bedsheets and cut to size of your light fixture and place it ontop of your tank, but under the lights. CHECK IT after 10 min to make sure it isnt too hot, no one wants to start a fire and I dont want your house to burn down lol.

Or use screen door mesh (i use this to dim my home made moonlights). Same method as above, cut to size and place under the lights.

Edit. The change of decor and environment could also add to his mood problem.

You can use aluminum foil sheets cut to shape to block the light, that should deal with the heat from the light fixture better. You can use more or less of it to change the amount of light if you don't like the initial light output.

Do you all suppose it could be possible that Chompers is behaving in this new, more lethargic manner because the increase in space actually makes him less stressed? After all, Johnny did say that the only change in the decor of the tank was the removal of the divider. It seems plausible that the fish is in fact less stressed now because he has more space to roam, which allows him to settle down and be comfortable. It is also known that a stressed fish can become quite aggressive and will eat more than a calm comfortable fish.

Thoughts?

I would agree with those who posted before me that reducing the light in the tank would probably be appreciated by this guy regardless.
