Always worked for me. The protein is to get her ready for breeding it doesn't induce it. They would have to want to breed with each other and that's more difficult to make happen

Dithers give them a common enemy to bond over and help gain confidence and so they won't kill each other if they decide to breed. I'd use large tetras or barbs

I wouldn't do it I mean it could work but female jags in breeding in mode in my experience are evil. They wouldn't like the male near the eggs or fry and really beat them up
