6500G Pond Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
One more thing, I noticed that your bottom drains are just something like glorified shower drain-caps (I mean the top cover, don't get offended please)..
Make a larger dome, easy with some concrete and using PVC 90' elbows as spacers to keep it about 3/4" off the floor. Seal it with a couple of water proof paint layers. My pond thread has some pictures on it.
That way you create much more flow over the bottom and clean out a much wider area than you'd would currently.

Cheers,
Luc

Just thought of it again, the top and sides of the dome could easily be 'camouflaged' if you'd cement some river stones in it.
That way you'd only see a small heap of stones and none of the drain.

I am, by the way, starting on my next project and you just gave me a tremendous amount of ideas..
I consider myself lucky, heheee, one of my customers want me building their pond, about the same size as mine but it will need to be very permanent and very strong.

Cheers,
Luc

Thx once again Luc....
Ur next project, are u going to have diff level? If so and have drains at these levels, don't frgt to install valves for each near the bog. I didn't install and can't drain the whole pond altogether :/).
When are u starting ur build?

Start with sketches and drawings this week, then collect prices and material.
Factory construction just reached above ground level. Still some time.

For this build, I'll avoid hopefully the mistakes I made with the first pond.
Cheers,
Luc

Will be watching out for your new thread Luc. Good luck mate

Ok now for some updates...
I have introduced the fishes for the cycling process. All the natives are pretty healthy and settled in well except for the Koi's. Introduced 4 of them and they been stressed. I guess it will take a week or so for them to be free swimming. They are eating well though. They are ranging from 12-16" sizes. Also i have a surprise guest in there, my 8" gar. Yea he was being kinda nuisance for my dats. Saw him trying to eat one of them. Had no option but to put him here. He is doing fine. Will move him to my tank once the dats have gained enuf in size.
The bog is doing a tremendous job in keeping the water crystal clear. Will be adding tons of scrubbies into ma settling tank to have more bio media. I may be needing some jets at the bottom to clear up the detritus. Before is get one will heed Luc's advise on the drain cover and see how that works.
