Paraneetroplus Synspillum - Short Body?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I really don't like or I guess don't understand why people like short body fish. I like the natural and BIG fish.

It must be that "pulling for the underdog" thing or favoring the runt of the litter.

So now they're paraneetroplus, huh? Not paratheraps? Eh... I think I'm partial to vieja anyway... LOL... interesting looking fish for sure!

Aye, been Paraneetroplus for a while. :P I like 'Vieja' as well, sounds very nice, but meh to reduce confusion it's probably better to use the most recent designation aka 'Paraneetroplus'.

In Asian practice, the tail of this fish will be chop off to form a butterfly form. Mutilated and deformed fish aren't my cup, but I am keeping and breeding High Body Green Terror and love their round shape.
Why people like short body? Because they are cute.

Thanks to all who have commented so far.

Here is a picture the day it was purchased. 9/11/12. It looked similar to the others in the tank. I did not notice how short the body was until it grew out. Strange little syn.

I respect you for looking after this little fish and giving it a future, but I myself wouldn't want to hang onto it. I'm only interested in species perfection.

Each person have their own definition, so 'perfect' to one person might not be 'perfect' to another. After all, some people think a certain coloration of a cichlid is 'perfect'. Others look at the overall appearance. Then there are those interested in having multiple different colors. And of course, there are those just interested in personality. Even then, what is perfect varies. Some may think breeding for the most amount of aggression out of any cichlid is the best, turning it into a 'wild, fun, active' fish whilst others would think the complete reverse, that the 'perfect' temperament for a fish should be that of mildness and the ability to cohabit with whatever, and so breed for that. The same for everything else.

This is cause we take these fish from the wild and modify them however we want - inbreeding them until they turn into something that we like.

That said, because it is all subjective, it's fine for you to decide what 'perfect' is in your own viewpoint and go for it, but just remember that 'perfection' varies so there's no such thing as a form of perfection that everyone agrees upon.

Not that you really said anything about it, but thought I should mention what I think anyways. :P In my opinion there is no such thing as a universally-applicable 'perfection'. But one can say a fish is 'perfectly red' for example, defining in such a case that the entire fish is red, for example. In other cases, 'perfectly red' could be a perfect mix of red and other colors that looks nicest, which of course varies on who's looking at the fish. :P

Blah blah blah sorry for going on a tangent. XD
