my pops told me males have wider longer tail fins and female have rounder shorter...... lol

I have a silver and I don't know sex yet. I read that the females body would be more wide than average male. They said wider when looking at it from side not talking about girth. But I still don't know for sure.

if the fish is about 6-7 years old and not obese, it's easy to tell by that way cuz the female have eggs.
 
My male use to make a loud vibrating humming noise, I have herd only males do this but I am not sure is that is true , maybe somebody else knows?


This is true. But it only happens in some cases. IF it happens, then you know it is a male.
 
the only way to know for certain is when you see big orange eggs on the bottom... then i knew maybelline was female... it only happened once in 9 years........
 
She dropped them alone, ie, without a male in the vicinity? It does not happen a lot...
