Arrived at home afterwork and discovered that DSL service was suspended. My bill is up to date. There was a number listed on the att login screen...it turns out AT&T wanted us to use Uverse so they arbitrary cut my service. The number was to a AT&T sales department which was closed?! The tech support confirms my line is good, my account is not over due but they can not activate the DSL without sale office approval.

Dear marketing head at AT&T
,do you think arbitrarily and without warning cut of the service I paid for will make me more or less want to continue with your service?

Grrrrrrrrrr. extremely aggravating :-o

I hate at&t, years ago I had cingular for my cell phone provider and had great service because there was a tower near my house but when at&t bought them out they shut off that tower so I couldn't get reception unless I stood in the street and they wouldn't let me out of my contract. Luckily it was up shortly after and I ran from them as fast as I could. They were rude about the whole situation too and blamed me for getting there service in an unsupported area.

I hate to put myself out there like this but.....

I work for ATT, and have for the last 15 years. Our company is not perfect, and I sometimes feel the size of our company hampers us in many ways. However..... I have also come to learn over the years that the stories that you hear, from either side, are always open to interpretation. Its ok to hate, I sometimes do too. But there has to more to this. There is no way any service would be cut without warning, especially just as move to force you to other services. That sounds like it could have legal ramifications. ATT Im sure is aware of that, and I highly doubt that they would take any action like that. There just has to be more behind this. As far as customer service....... The call centers are just like everyone elses. Sometimes you get bad reps, sometimes you get good reps. It's just human nature. If I end up with someone who isn't helping me, I either ask for a manager, or hang up and call back in. Every large company sucks when you are having trouble. Very frustrating. Sorry to hear about it. BTW I am no ATT loyalist, just an employee.

doesn't sound like the dsl sucks

sounds like at&t sucks

+1

I got at&t DSL too. Mine is working fine and had that problem yet. I would demand my money back. Your paying for a particular service it should work. Instead of them cutting it off just to get you to get u verse. When I first got mine they hit me with the bogus excuse that in order to get internet we needed u verse then when they came to do the install. The installer realized were I live you can't have no other cable but Comcast.

I called and my service is restored for 10 days while i think if i want to stay with them or switch. They claim they sent a letter through the mail asking me to contact them which may or may not have happened, but they did cut my service last night and the people that could restore the service did not begin to work until 8am eastern time. The tech line can not override that suspension last night which was really stupid.

I still have to ask these people: does this process make me more or less likely wanting to stick with AT&T?

Ok. I just spoke with some of the "upper" leadership here. And this is what I learned.

I guess we are doing this in certain areas. However...... supposedly is should have little to no impact on your current bill, sometimes, I have been told, the new service is actaully cheaper. Also the service is really a forced upgrade. Your speeds should be faster. It is my understanding that they are not forcing the entire UVERSE serice on you, but just replacing whatever service you currently use. I agree that it should be more seamless, but it doesn't sound like you would be losing anything. We are upgrading our network in general, in an effort to stay up to date. Most like ly your service will be provided by fiber to our node now inplace of the old copper feed.

ATT's DSL is the worst internet service I've had since the days of AOL. Constant dropouts, painfully slow speeds that are never close to what is advertised. Their infrastructure is severely outdated and they refuse to acknowledge the problem. At my previous house, they had to tear out parts of the sidewalk and driveway to replace some old lines after months of complaining about their poor internet connection. After several years with ATT I got fed up and went with Comcast's cable internet. I can finally enjoy fast speeds and a stable connection. I hate Comcast as a company too, but at least I actually get what I'm paying for.

make sure you call and complain until you get credit for the time you were unable to use the service you've already paid for.
