Hey guys I was wondering what you guys think is the best sand for stingrays? I bought a 100 lb bag of my friend and he says one of his other friends uses it in a stingray tank and they do fine with it. I'm not really having much of a problem with the sand for the ray but ever since i added it into my tank i keep getting brown algae ever couple days all over my glass and decorations and its getting a bit annoying. Ive never had algae like this until i used this sand. My lights stay on 12 hours a day at most, some nights less. I do weekly water changes and clean glass and decorations all the time. Do you guys think maybe my town added something to the water and its causing algae?

12 hours of light should give you adequate algae growth regardless of sand. Maybe the sand added an extra source of surface area to grow bacteria which in turn created more nitrates for the algae to feed off. But in general, I don't like using sand for rays. They seem much happier without sand. imho

What would you suggest bare bottom?

Carib sea torpedo beach, a little on the high cost but so worth it with rays. Large grain wont stick to the discs. Its great.

Thanks bro I'm definitely gonna buy some of that. I was looking to spend around $20 or so for 20 lb bags. Do you have any pictures of it in your tank?
