Ok, looking to join the ranks of ray keeper in the next year.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey ray people, I have a ray inbound to join me this weekend. I've done my research and as you all recommended its a male Motoro going in my 300 gallon. The dims are 86L X 24W X 30T. The substrate is silica sand, the tank turns over 5 times an hous and has a wet dry filter of decent size. Tank mates will be frontosa, bichir, and assorted large haps.

Any last minute tips and reminders???

Congrats you will love rays. 2' wide is a bit small for a motoro, hopefully he doesn't outgrow it too fast for you. Tank mates will probably work just watch the bichir as sometimes they cause problems. Post pics when you get him.

I don't know what kind of other animals you have? keeping restricted species you are subject to confiscation of ALL animals, dogs and cats too! I have 2 dogs, a cat and a few awesome ball morphs. I would not risk it over a fish! Move or don't keep illegal species! Plus talking about it on here .... not hard to obtain an IP address. With the invasive species in Florida, fish and game are cracking down hard!

Um, they are not banned in the states generally nore in my state so I don't get your intensity snake8myelbo.

Thanks KNH, pics posting soon.

I actually got two not just one, male and female. The male is looking a little off though. He's breathing labored and rather pink in the stomach. The female behaved much better and quickly berried in the sand. The male is sitting with 2/3 of him self propped up on the side of the tank. I'd grab a picture of his stomach but he is now on the back of the tank. Any notions as to why he'd be this way? Tested tank and parameters are solid, ph is a little high, almost 8. Temp is 80.

That is my males red tummy. He is getting better and his breathing is slowing, he's also responding to other fish in the tank finally. My fish aren't aggressive but if you going to act like your dead they are gonna clean up the mess ya know. My female is already doing great. She is very responsive and ate some cichlids attack. She immediately responded to other fish either with curiosity or fright depending. Here is a pic of her incognito:

Sorry my response was for isgra. He said he is a responsible pet owner and he doesn't care that rays are illegal in his state. Keep up on the water changes and his belly will heal up! Nice setup!
